The problem

Four Daikin wall-mounted mini-split units in a Downtown Brooklyn home hadn't been deep-cleaned in a while. The evaporator coils, casings, and blower wheels had built up dirt and mold, and the units gave off a musty, unpleasant smell whenever they ran — a common sign that the parts air actually passes through need cleaning, not just the filters.

What we did

All four units were treated as a full deep clean, not just a filter swap — the parts that actually trap dirt, mold and odor (the evaporator coil, the blower wheel and the casing) were the focus on every unit. Ductless mini-splits like these Daikins recirculate the same indoor air, so buildup on those inner parts is what causes the smell. It also returns with normal use, so a periodic clean is normal rather than a one-time fix.

The result

The before-and-after shows it clearly — the coils, blower wheels and casings came out clean across all four units, and the musty smell was gone once the mold and buildup were removed. In this case the result came out perfectly. Mini-splits collect dust and mold again with everyday use, so a periodic clean keeps them fresh rather than being permanent.
